LASG Mourns LASTMA Officer, Two Others Killed in Fatal Crash at Badagry Roundabout

The (LASTMA) has announced the tragic death of one of its officers and two other citizens in a devastating road accident that occurred on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Badagry Roundabout inward Seme.

The fatal crash, which involved a truck belonging to the , has thrown the Badagry community into mourning and once again spotlighted the dangers faced daily by traffic management personnel across Lagos corridors.

According to reports obtained by starnigerianews.com, a fully loaded SHACMAN truck allegedly suffered catastrophic brake failure while travelling at high speed. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, ramming into a LASTMA officer who was on duty regulating traffic and a pedestrian at the roundabout. The truck continued its deadly course, killing another individual before finally coming to a halt about 200 metres from the initial impact point.

The driver fled the scene immediately after the accident but was later apprehended by other LASTMA officials and handed over to the police.

Emergency responders, including officials of LASTMA, the (FRSC), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, officers from the Badagry Police Division, and concerned residents, swiftly mobilised to the scene. The victims were rushed to the General Hospital, Badagry, where they were pronounced dead.

Reacting to the tragic incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed profound grief and extended condolences to the bereaved families.

“This is a heartbreaking incident, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims during this incredibly difficult time,” he said.

He described the fallen officer as a dedicated public servant who paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, noting that his courage, professionalism and unwavering commitment to service would not be forgotten.

Bakare-Oki further stressed the urgent need for haulage operators and logistics firms to prioritise strict vehicle maintenance, particularly of braking systems, to avert avoidable tragedies.

“This tragedy is a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of mechanical failures. We implore all transport companies to conduct rigorous and regular maintenance checks to safeguard lives,” he stated.

The accident vehicle has since been impounded and handed over to the Badagry Police Division for forensic investigation, while authorities assured that justice would be pursued.

The Lagos State Government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening monitoring mechanisms, enhancing emergency response capacity and intensifying public enlightenment campaigns aimed at improving road safety across the state.

The tragic loss underscores the shared responsibility of government agencies, transport operators and road users in ensuring safer highways throughout Lagos.
