For the fourth consecutive day, the Nigerian Naira has witnessed a steady appreciation, now trading at N1,580. This positive development has sparked celebrations across the nation, with many attributing it to the ongoing efforts to support local industries.
In a recent post on his social media account, renowned activist Reno Omokri expressed his delight over the Naira’s progress while emphasizing the importance of supporting Nigerian businesses. Omokri stated, “Let us celebrate our country for this little progress. It does not mean that you support Tinubu or the APC. Those ones are temporary. Nigeria is forever.”
Encouraging the Buy Naija campaign, Omokri urged citizens to continue with the #GrowNairaBuyNaija initiative, highlighting the impact of patronizing local products and services on the nation’s economy.
Sharing a throwback photo from 1999, Omokri reminisced about wearing made-in-Nigeria attire alongside Beko Kuti, brother of the legendary Fela Kuti, emphasizing his longstanding advocacy for supporting indigenous industries.
In his post, Omokri outlined a series of actions to further promote Nigerian businesses, including using Glo for communication, driving Innoson, Nord, or Jet Motors vehicles, and constructing with materials from Dangote and BUA.
He also encouraged consuming locally produced goods, such as breakfast with Nasco products, dining on Nigerian rice for lunch and dinner, and enjoying traditional Nigerian delicacies like Zobo and palm wine for celebrations.
Furthermore, Omokri suggested opting for Nigerian-owned airlines like Air Peace over international carriers and supporting local markets for shopping needs. He advocated for choosing cassava bread over foreign wheat bread, watching Nigerian football teams like Enyimba and Kano Pillars, and enjoying Nollywood movies at Silverbird cinemas.
The post concluded with a call to stream Nigerian music, embrace traditional attire such as aso oke, agbada, babanriga, or isi agu, and overall, to prioritize Nigerian-made products and experiences.
Omokri’s message resonates with many Nigerians who see the current economic climate as an opportunity to bolster domestic industries and foster self-sufficiency. As the nation continues to navigate economic challenges, support for local businesses remains pivotal in driving sustainable growth and development.
