Obokun Oriade SDP Candidate, Oladigbo Raises Alarm Over Alleged Vandalism of Arc Goke Omigbodun’s  Campaign Materials in Osogbo

Obokun/Oriade SDP Candidate Calls for Investigation, Warns Against Political Intimidation Ahead of 2027 Elections

OSOGBO, Osun State — October 22, 2026

Hon. Oladigbo Oluwasogo Olalekan, ASM, ACIPM, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate for the House of Representatives representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency, has condemned the alleged vandalism of campaign materials belonging to Arch. Goke Omigbodun, the party’s candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District, in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

Oladigbo described the reported incident as a threat to democratic participation, urging relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the removal and alleged destruction of the campaign materials.

The controversy followed a video circulating on social media in which Omigbodun was seen displaying SDP-branded campaign materials reportedly removed from their original position and found hanging on an iron pole in Osogbo.

Reacting to the development, Oladigbo expressed concern that the alleged incident could undermine the freedom of political parties to publicise their candidates, communicate their programmes and canvass for votes ahead of the January 2027 general elections.

He called on political actors across party lines to demonstrate respect for democratic principles by allowing opposition parties to operate freely without intimidation, harassment or destruction of their campaign materials.

According to Oladigbo, political competition should be driven by ideas, policies and the ability of candidates to convince voters, rather than actions capable of creating fear or restricting the activities of rival parties.

He also drew attention to concerns raised during the August governorship election in Osun State over alleged intimidation and harassment of political actors, arguing that democratic principles must be upheld consistently, regardless of which party is affected.

The SDP candidate expressed concern over the implications of the latest development for political tolerance and peaceful electoral competition in the state.

Oladigbo further linked the unfolding political atmosphere to the realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, including the reported endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid by the Accord Party. He maintained that political alliances should not come at the expense of democratic freedoms or the rights of competing parties.

He argued that the SDP should be allowed to present its agenda to the electorate, describing the party as a credible alternative for Nigerians seeking accountable leadership, economic relief and improved governance.

“The people of Osun State have the constitutional right to choose their leaders freely. No political party should attempt to influence that choice through intimidation or actions that prevent other candidates from reaching the electorate,” Oladigbo said.

He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), relevant security agencies and other appropriate authorities to investigate the reported vandalism of Omigbodun’s campaign materials and take necessary steps to safeguard the campaign activities of all political parties.

He also appealed to political leaders, party supporters and residents of Osun State to maintain peace and resist any action capable of escalating political tensions as the 2027 elections approach.

Oladigbo stressed that the credibility of the electoral process depends not only on the conduct of voting but also on the freedom candidates enjoy to campaign, engage citizens and present their manifestoes without interference.

He maintained that the people, rather than political intimidation or the destruction of campaign materials, must determine the outcome of the forthcoming elections.

As political activities gather momentum ahead of 2027, the SDP candidate called for greater tolerance, accountability and respect for the democratic rights of all parties, insisting that a peaceful electoral environment remains essential to credible elections in Osun State.
