Osogbo, Osun State – June 12, 2024 – Dr. Ademola Bayonle, the 2022 Young Progressives Party (YPP) gubernatorial candidate in Osun State, has extended his congratulations to the people of Osun State on the celebration of June 12 Democracy Day. In his message, made available to StarNigerianews.com Dr. Bayonle called on political leaders to prioritize the needs of the populace, expressing concern over the rising cost of living and the apparent disregard by leaders to address these issues.
June 12 holds a profound significance in Nigeria’s history as it marks the day of the annulled 1993 presidential election, a symbol of the nation’s commitment to democracy and the relentless fight for good governance. Dr. Bayonle’s address emphasized the importance of this day as a time for reflection and a call to action for political leaders.
“On this momentous occasion of Democracy Day, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the people of Osun State and all Nigerians. Today, we celebrate our collective resilience and the progress we’ve made towards achieving true democratic governance,” said Dr. Bayonle. “However, it is also a day to remind our political leaders of their duty to serve the people and address their pressing needs.”
Dr. Bayonle expressed deep concern about the high cost of living in Nigeria, noting that the current economic situation is placing immense strain on the average citizen. He criticized the perceived indifference of political leaders towards these challenges, urging them to take concrete steps to alleviate the hardships faced by the people.
“Our country is grappling with an unprecedented high cost of living, and it is disheartening to see that the body language of our political leaders does not indicate a genuine readiness to help the people. We need urgent and effective policies to address these economic challenges,” Dr. Bayonle stated.
He specifically challenged state governors who focus on infrastructure projects, such as building bridges and other constructions, while neglecting essential services like healthcare and social welfare. Dr. Bayonle emphasized that while infrastructure development is important, it should not come at the expense of providing quality healthcare and other basic necessities to the citizens.
“It is concerning to see state governors prioritizing construction projects over the essential needs of their people. Building bridges and roads is important, but it is equally crucial to ensure that citizens have access to quality healthcare and other vital welfare services. Our leaders must strike a balance and ensure that the well-being of the people is at the forefront of their agenda,” he urged.
Dr. Bayonle concluded his message by calling for unity and collective effort to hold leaders accountable and to work towards a more equitable and prosperous Nigeria. He encouraged the people of Osun State to remain hopeful and engaged in the democratic process.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, let us remain united in our resolve to demand accountability and good governance from our leaders. Together, we can build a Nigeria that truly reflects the democratic ideals we honor today. Happy Democracy Day to everyone in Osun State and across Nigeria!” he concluded.
