
Osogbo, Osun State – June 12, 2024 – Hon. Funmiso Babarinde, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun State, joined the people of Osun in celebrating Democracy Day. In his address, Hon. Babarinde emphasized the importance of June 12 as a cornerstone of Nigeria’s democratic journey and called on President Bola Tinubu to implement policies that would alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians.
June 12 commemorates the annulled 1993 presidential election, a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s history that has come to symbolize the nation’s commitment to democracy. Hon. Babarinde acknowledged the sacrifices made by many to establish and sustain democratic governance in Nigeria.
“As we celebrate this historic day, it is crucial that we remember the struggles and sacrifices that have paved the way for our democracy,” said Hon. Babarinde. “Our collective efforts must now focus on ensuring that the promises of democracy translate into tangible benefits for all Nigerians.”
In his speech, Hon. Babarinde challenged President Tinubu to listen to the voices of Nigerians and to address their pressing concerns. He called for the implementation of policies aimed at economic recovery, job creation, and social welfare improvements.
“Nigerians are facing numerous challenges, from economic hardships to insecurity. It is imperative that our leaders listen to the plight of the people and take decisive actions to make life easier. I urge President Tinubu to prioritize policies that will foster economic growth, create jobs, and enhance the quality of life for all Nigerians,” Hon. Babarinde stated.
The PDP chieftain also took the opportunity to praise Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for his exemplary leadership and the significant progress being made in the state. He commended Governor Adeleke’s commitment to transparency, infrastructural development, and social welfare programs.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke has been a beacon of hope and a model of good governance in Osun State. His dedication to improving infrastructure, healthcare, and education has brought about positive changes that are felt across the state. I commend his efforts and urge him to continue the good work,” Hon. Babarinde added.
The Democracy Day celebrations in Osun State included a series of events such as public lectures, cultural performances, and community engagement activities, reflecting the state’s vibrant democratic spirit and unity.
