Ifelodun-Boripe-Odo Otin Federal Constituency witnessed a significant boost in economic empowerment on Wednesday 12th June 2024 as Honorable Soji Adetunji, the Member of House of Representatives for the constituency, launched a comprehensive N150 million empowerment initiative. The initiative, which aimed to uplift the local economy, saw the distribution of various essential items and financial support to individuals and groups.



The Program which was held at Akinorun Grammar School, Ikirun, drew a large crowd of eager residents. The empowerment package included sewing machines, tailoring equipment, grinding machines, generators, washing machines, deep freezers, 32-inch televisions, fans, motorcycles, and more. Additionally, 427 individuals and 21 groups received cash grants ranging from N100,000 to N1.5 million.
Hon. Adetunji, addressing the enthusiastic crowd, highlighted the importance of resilience and self-sufficiency within the community. “Good people of Ifelodun-Boripe-Odo Otin, today is a day of hope and progress,” he began. “Our community has always been known for its resilience and resourcefulness. It is my honor and privilege to stand before you today, not just as your representative, but as a fellow citizen committed to our shared prosperity.”
He emphasized that the initiative was about more than just distributing items. “This empowerment initiative is more than just distributing goods,” Hon. Adetunji continued. “It is about providing tools for self-sufficiency, creating opportunities for growth, and fostering an environment where everyone can thrive. With these resources, I believe we can ignite a wave of entrepreneurship and innovation that will ripple across our constituency.”


Several beneficiaries expressed their gratitude and shared their plans for the future. Mr. Kolawole from Ward 3, Odo-Otin, who received a motorcycle, said, “This motorcycle will greatly improve my transport business and help me support my family.” Hon. Lateef Salawu from Ward 6, Ifelodun LG, and Mr. Popoola Jimoh from Ward 2, Boripe LG, also received motorcycles, enhancing their means of livelihood.
Mr. Ojo Sayo from Ward 1, Odo-Otin LG, who received a generator, expressed his appreciation. “Frequent power outages have been a major challenge for my business. This generator will ensure that I can work without interruptions,” he said. Similar sentiments were echoed by Mr. Dauda Olaniyi from Ward 2, Ifelodun LG, and Mr. Usman Taiwo from Ward 4, Boripe LG, who also received generators.
Mrs. Kazeem Serifat from Ward 3, Odo-Otin LG, was among those who received a deep freezer. “This deep freezer will help me preserve my goods and expand my business,” she said. Mrs. Rasak Mariam from Ward 6, Ifelodun LG, and Mrs. Oyedele Fasilat from Ward 2, Boripe LG, who also received deep freezers, shared their excitement about the new opportunities this would bring.
Recipients of industrial sewing machines included Ibrahim Duduyemi from Ward 4, Boripe LG, Lawal Azeez from Ward 7, Ifelodun LG, and Sanusi Mariam from Ward 14, Odo-Otin LG. They expressed hope that the equipment would help them start or expand their tailoring businesses, thereby improving their economic prospects.
The financial grants provided to 427 individuals and 21 groups ranged from N100,000 to N1.5 million. This monetary support aims to kickstart small businesses and support community projects. Many beneficiaries spoke of plans to invest in agriculture, retail, and other entrepreneurial ventures.
By the end of the day, the community center was abuzz with excitement and optimism. Hon. Adetunji’s initiative had not only provided essential resources but also instilled a renewed sense of hope and possibility. His vision of a thriving, self-sufficient constituency was beginning to take shape, one sewing machine, one generator, and one motorcycle at a time.
As the sun set over Ifelodun-Boripe-Odo Otin, residents dispersed, each carrying with them a piece of the future. Hon. Soji Adetunji stood proudly, watching his community, confident that together, they would continue to build a prosperous tomorrow.
