In a closely contested election held virtually on August 3, 2024, Malam Rahaman Aliagan, a prominent media entrepreneur from Kwara, emerged as the National President of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ). The election saw Aliagan triumph over Isreal Bashorun in a competitive race.

The election was overseen by Oladigbo Olalekan, who chaired the NGIJ National Electoral Council (NEC). The successful virtual conduct of the election was praised by members of NGIJ, who commended the NEC for their meticulous planning and execution.
