Pathfinder’s Movement National Chairman, Comrade Aramide Kehinde, Praises Imo State’s Ban on Child Graduation Parties”
The National Chairman of the Pathfinder’s Movement of Nigeria, Comrade Aramide Kehinde, has applauded the Imo State Government over its newly introduced education policies, including the ban on graduation parties for kindergarten, nursery, and Junior Secondary School (JSS) pupils.
In a statement issued on Monday which was made available to starnigerianews.com, Comrade Kehinde described the move as a “progressive step” that will ease financial pressure on parents and refocus attention on academic excellence.
“The Imo State Government has shown commendable leadership by prioritizing the welfare of families and the quality of education over unnecessary ceremonies that burden parents,” Kehinde stated. “This policy aligns with our movement’s vision of accessible and sustainable education for all Nigerians.”
The state’s Commissioner for Education, Prof. Bernard Ikegwuoha, had earlier announced the immediate ban on graduation parties for early-year pupils, permitting only Primary 6 and Senior Secondary School students to hold such ceremonies.
Additionally, the government prohibited schools from frequently changing textbooks, mandating that approved books be used for at least four years to allow reuse among siblings.
“This measure will curb exploitative practices and ensure stability in our education system,” Prof. Ikegwuoha said in an official memo.
The policy has drawn widespread praise from residents, with many taking to social media to commend the government for tackling what they called “exploitation by private schools.”
The Ministry of Education has warned that defaulting schools will face sanctions, emphasizing strict compliance monitoring.
Comrade Kehinde urged other states to emulate Imo’s approach, stating: “When governments take bold steps to protect citizens from undue financial strain, it strengthens public trust and fosters development.”
