Tinubu Appoints Ola Awakan, Bello Bawa New Heads for Tourism, Biosafety and Investment Agencies

Abuja — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of three new heads of key federal agencies as part of efforts to strengthen national institutions and boost sectoral development.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Bello Bawa Bwari from Niger State has been named the new Director-General of the National Biosafety Management Agency. His appointment takes effect from September 18, 2025, for an initial term of four years, in line with the provisions of Section 5 of the National Biosafety Management Agency Act, 2015.

Also appointed is Hon. Barr. Aminu Junaidu of Zamfara State, who will serve as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Investment and Security Tribunal for a five-year term beginning September 18, 2025.

In the tourism sector, President Tinubu approved the appointment of Olayiwola Nurudeen Awakan as the Director-General of the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC). Awakan’s four-year tenure commenced on September 2, 2025.

The statement emphasized that the appointments reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to repositioning vital institutions for efficiency, growth, and national development.

The President urged the appointees to bring their wealth of experience to bear in driving innovation and ensuring the agencies under their watch contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s progress.
