Osun 2026: Adeleke Picks Accord Governorship Ticket, Announces Revamped 5-Point Agenda

Governor Ademola Adeleke on Wednesday clinched the governorship ticket of the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 Osun State election, following a primary election held in Osogbo and monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other accredited observers.

Adeleke, who ran unopposed, polled 145 votes, while five ballots were rendered invalid. The governor formally accepted the nomination, describing his emergence as an endorsement of his administration’s performance and the goodwill of Osun people.

Speaking shortly after the exercise, Governor Adeleke unveiled an upgraded 5-Point Agenda that will form the backbone of his 2026 campaign. The revised plan focuses on integrated citizens’ and workers’ welfare, infrastructure consolidation for economic growth, expanded agro-industrial development for youth empowerment, innovations in health, education and social services, and an improved business environment to drive job creation.

Launching his re-election bid, Adeleke said the new race represents a continuation of what he called a “golden era” of development in Osun.

“We are today launching the battle for continuity of progress, good governance and democratic dividends,” the governor declared. “My candidacy signals the sustenance of the golden movement where the light of development continues to shine across our state.”

He insisted that the forthcoming election should be a contest of records, challenging expected rivals to present their achievements while in office.

Adeleke listed the accomplishments of his administration, noting that Osun moved from 33rd to 7th position in national examination ratings, reduced the state’s infrastructure deficit by more than 40% since 2022, cleared over 40% of inherited debt, and ranked first in primary healthcare access in the Southwest.

He maintained that his government had proven that “governance can be real” and that leadership, when properly aligned, can serve the people effectively.

The National Chairman of Accord Party, Barr. Maxwell Mgbudem, who presented Adeleke with the Certificate of Return, described the primary as a demonstration of the party’s commitment to internal democracy. He said Adeleke’s emergence was “divine” and expressed confidence that the governor would secure a decisive victory in the 2026 governorship poll.

“The process has once again confirmed Accord as a party guided by due process,” Mgbudem said.

The event drew party leaders, stakeholders and supporters who pledged full backing for the re-election campaign as the election season gathers momentum.
