The families and residents of Erin-Osun in Osun State have been thrown into deep mourning following the death of a prominent traditional chief, Chief Adeyemi Adegoke, the Aro of Erin-Osun, and his wife, Mrs Janet Adegoke, who both passed away on the same day.

According to family sources, Chief Adegoke, who had been battling an undisclosed illness for some time, died first. His death was reportedly due to complications arising from the ailment. Mrs Adegoke, who had been his primary caregiver throughout his illness, was by his side at the moment he passed away.
While arrangements were being made to convey the late chief’s body to the mortuary, Mrs Adegoke reportedly went into a room to change her clothes. After she failed to return for a prolonged period, a concerned relative went to check on her, only to find her collapsed on the floor.
Efforts were immediately made to revive her, but all attempts proved unsuccessful. She was pronounced dead shortly afterwards, joining her husband in death just hours apart.
The couple’s sudden passing has plunged their family and the Erin-Osun community into grief, given Chief Adegoke’s standing as a respected traditional leader in the town.
The burial of the late Chief Adeyemi Adegoke and his wife, Janet Adegoke, has been scheduled to take place on January 16, 2026, in Erin-Osun, their hometown.
