Educationist Goke Omigbodun Condemns Late-Night WASSCE*,
– Calls for Urgent Reform of Examination Systems.

Educationist and Social Democratic Party, SDP, Senatorial Candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District, Arc Goke Omigbodun, has strongly condemned the conduct of the 2026 WASSCE Agricultural Science examination, which reportedly extended into the evening hours in several schools across Osun State, and perhaps all over Nigeria.

Describing the development as “unacceptable and dangerous,” Omigbodun said it was insensitive for examination bodies to keep students in examination centres until late evening at a time when insecurity remains a major concern across the country.

According to him, while some private schools managed to provide electric lighting through generators, many public school students reportedly relied on moonlight, candles, mobile phone flashlights, and other improvised means to complete their examination.

“This is the 21st century. Instead of improving examination processes, our examination bodies appear to be moving backwards. The safety and welfare of students must come first,” he said.

The educationist noted that the incident has also exposed the poor state of infrastructure in public schools, particularly the lack of electricity, and called on federal, state, and local governments to urgently address the situation.

Omigbodun further criticized the growing trend of examination schedules that expose candidates to risk, including examinations conducted late into the evening and UTME sessions fixed for very early hours of the day.

He therefore called on WAEC, NECO, JAMB, and relevant education authorities to review their examination logistics and adopt safer, more student-friendly arrangements that reflect current security realities in Nigeria.
