Gustavo Petro’s Coup Chant in America: A Shameful Spectacle Gone Too Far”
In a stunning display of audacity, Colombian President Gustavo Petro shocked the world by openly marching through the streets of New York during the United Nations General Assembly, chanting “Free Palestine” and calling on U.S. soldiers to defy the orders of President Donald Trump.
Gustavo’s reckless remarks, which is a direct incitement to insubordination and a veiled call for a military coup in America must be condemn across the political spectrum.
In response, U.S. State Department officials, led by Senator Marco Rubio, acted decisively revoking President Petro’s U.S. visa for attempting to interfere in its affairs.
America is a nation that values free speech, but freedom is not a license to attack the country on its own soil. Petro’s brazen behavior raises the question: did he mistake the streets of New York for the streets of Bogotá? It is laughable—and deeply troubling—that a sitting head of state would openly advocate insubordination against a democratically elected U.S. president.
I will encourage President Petro should to first prove his courage in Colombia by visiting Medellín, Buenaventura, or Barranquilla and publicly appeal to drug cartels to stop their reign of destruction. Would he dare to deliver in those cities the same “orders of humanity” he shouted in New York? Am sure Most Colombians know such a stunt could end in massive tragedy.
Petro’s anger toward President Trump appears rooted in Trump’s unrelenting efforts to protect Americans from the devastating impact of drug trafficking, an area where Petro himself has offered no meaningful blueprint or strategy. Instead of confronting the powerful drug cartels ravaging his own country, Petro has chosen to attack President Trump because of its determination to defend Americans.
The United Nations should also take note. The hospitality of the United States must never be taken for granted. No world leader should be allowed to use the UN General Assembly as a stage to call for the overthrow of an American government. Would President Gustavo Petro dare to issue such reckless statements in Moscow, Beijing, Riyadh, or Pyongyang?
We all know the consequences in those capitals would be far more severe.
Again, this is not about love or hatred for President Donald Trump it is about respect for America’s sovereignty. United States citizens of every political persuasion should be outraged by Petro’s dangerous rhetoric.
America must send a clear message that no individual or foreign leader can attempt to undermine its democracy in secret or broad daylight and walk away unpunished.
The swift action by Senator Rubio and the State Department is commendable and also the penalty must be extended to members of his family and top officials in President Gustavo Petro’s cabinet.
This will serve as a warning to others who might consider similar provocations either now or in the nearest future that United States will not tolerate interference on how its choose to conduct its business both internal and external.
In the end, Two thing is certain: America will prevail, and President Trump will continue to succeed.
