Ogun PCRC Chairman Calls for Reform in PTA Membership to Safeguard Education System
The Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Ogun State, Ven. Samson Kunle Popoola JP, has called on the Ogun State Government to introduce urgent reforms in the composition of Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs) across schools in the state.
In a statement made available to starnigerianews.com Popoola raised concerns over the presence of some PTA executives and members who no longer have wards enrolled in the schools they represent. He noted that this practice undermines accountability, transparency, and the core mandate of PTAs, which is to protect the welfare of students.
He urged the Ministry of Education to immediately issue a directive restricting PTA membership and executive positions strictly to parents or guardians of students currently enrolled in the respective schools.
Popoola further recommended that schools carry out annual verification of PTA members at the beginning of every academic session to ensure compliance.
“This reform will ensure that PTAs are truly representative, transparent, and accountable, while also protecting our students from undue exploitation,” he said.
The Ogun PCRC Chairman emphasized that safeguarding the integrity of the education system is vital for shaping the future of the state, stressing the need for PTAs to remain genuine partners in the advancement of quality education.
